Dr. Mohamed Saad Katatni, Secretary General of the Freedom and Justice Party (FJP), denounced detention and referral of the political activist Alaa Abdel Fattah to a military court for trial on charges of involvement in the Maspero incident. The Secretary General reiterated the FJP rejection of such military trials in Egypt after the revolution, and called upon the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces to take serious steps for more freedoms and for the application of the principle of maximum justice.
Dr. Katatni expressed shock and dismay at the transfer of civilians to military trials, while leaders of the former regime are tried in civilian courts.
